Signal has announced that they now allow group calls of up to 40 people (up from the previous limit of 16). Since I was only recommending FaceTime because it had a higher participants limit than Signal (which it doesn’t have anymore), I have decided to remove any mention of it from the Good Practices Guide and the Privacy-protecting Tools You Can Switch To guide.
Good Practices Guide
- Updated the Secure communication chapter with more info about WhatsApp (and some of its more recent features), some info about Zoom (for when Signal or Jitsi Meet are not an option), plus some general improvements.
- Expanded the Web and app tracking chapter with added mention of Apple’s new App Privacy Report feature, which is available on devices running iOS or iPadOS 15.2 or later.
- Minor improvements to the Data protection and minimization chapter with the addition of a link to get info about Apple’s new Legacy Contact feature.
- Updated and improved the VPN chapter with better info about what’s important to check when looking for a trustworthy VPN, with the replacement of ProtonVPN in favour of IVPN, and with links to a trio of newly published (and very informative) articles from Consumer Reports on the subject.
- Removed mention of Wire from the Secure communication chapter. I made this decision because for the past few years Wire has basically worked to make its free personal offering (Wire Personal) worst, while at the same time making it increasingly harder for people to even know it existed. This is not cool.
- Removed link to Is Tor safe? Learn how secure Tor is (ProtonVPN Blog) from the Tor chapter.
Tools
- Added a new IVPN paragraph.
- Updated the Mullvad VPN paragraph.
- Removed the ProtonVPN paragraph.
Resources
- Removed ProtonVPN Blog from the Blogs and newsletters section.
About
- Removed mention of the Precisely Private account on Wire (which I have now deleted, again) for the same reasons highlighted above.

Signal ha annunciato di aver aumentato a 40 persone la dimensione massima delle chiamate di gruppo (un limite prima fissato a 16 persone). Dato che consigliavo FaceTime solo perché aveva un limite di partecipanti più alto di Signal (cosa che ora non ha più), ho deciso di rimuovere ogni menzione di FaceTime dalla Guida alle buone pratiche e dalla guida Strumenti alternativi che tutelano la privacy.
Guida alle buone pratiche
- Aggiornato il capitolo sulla comunicazione sicura con più informazioni su WhatsApp (ed alcune delle sue funzioni più recenti), alcune informazioni su Zoom (per situazioni in cui Signal o Jitsi Meet non vanno bene), oltre che ad alcuni miglioramenti generali.
- Ampliato il capitolo sul tracciamento web e delle app con l’aggiunta di una menzione per la nuova funzione Resoconto sulla privacy delle app di Apple, che è disponibile su dispositivi con iOS o iPadOS 15.2 o successivi.
- Piccoli miglioramenti al capitolo sulla protezione e minimizzazione dei dati con l’aggiunta di un link per avere info sulla nuova funzione contatto erede di Apple.
- Aggiornato e migliorato il capitolo VPN con migliori informazioni su ciò che è importante controllare quando si sta cercando una VPN affidabile, con la sostituzione di ProtonVPN con IVPN e con link ad un trio di articoli appena pubblicati da Consumer Reports sull’argomento.
- Rimossa menzione di Wire dal capitolo sulla comunicazione sicura. Ho preso questa decisione perché negli ultimi anni Wire ha sostanzialmente lavorato per rendere la sua offerta gratuita per utilizzo personale (Wire Personal) peggiore, rendendo allo stesso tempo sempre più difficile per le persone anche solo sapere che questa esisteva. Un po’ una delusione, insomma.
- Rimosso il link a Is Tor safe? Learn how secure Tor is (ProtonVPN Blog) dal capitolo su Tor.
Strumenti
- Aggiunto un nuovo paragrafo IVPN.
